the cape

back to reality, yep, iowa is my reality, especially after spending a lovely vacation with my girls on the cape.  it was relaxing and easy going, no rush, no stress.  not a vacation where you are left feeling like you need a vacation immediately after you get home.  crossing my fingers for more pictures after holly's picture card gets back from recovery, hopefully all is not lost.

i love the boy on the skateboard.  the lobster pot was yummy.

so far on each trip we have had a celebrity sitings, no brad pitt or george clooney.

but john waters at clem and ursies, you know that little movie/musical "hairspray", well he is responsible and he left some of us, maggie, star-struck.

and on this trip wallace shawn, well surely you remember the princess bride..."inconceivable."

or more recently on sex and the city as the food critic blind date that carrie sets up with her vogue editor.

kansas city. kansas city, here i come.  well actually i have come and gone.  my sister holly and i ran over to kansas city for a quick weekend.  we stayed with her friend tonya.  it was fun to see how the city has changed in the 20 years since we lived there...wow i feel old.

we also did a little celebrating with our cousin paige who turned 21 that week.  the thought, "i am too old for this", filled my head the entire night.  i guess it proves that this summer I have been "mild fun", or so i have been told by my sisters.  hope you had at least one fun weekend getaway this summer.  the back to school ads now fill my sister's kitchen table.  it is making me so sad but i am sure plenty of moms are salivating for the start of school.  i know plenty of the moms i saw at target the other day with screaming and whining kids in tow can't wait.

displaced....sort of

i have been back in the st. louis area which is "home" to me.  back home to visit and be here for tom and his family (send healing thoughts this way).  i loaded up all my beads and moved my studio to my sister holly's attic.  the 4 hour drive back and forth every several days got to be too much.  it was easier to fill up a rubber-maid container with trays of beads.  holly has been kind to put me up in her guest room.  it has been a year since i moved away.  in some ways it would be easy to slip right back into the life i had here and yet i feel far enough removed that it would not be the same.  iowa has from time to time felt like "home" but the time i have spent alone while tom has needed to be with his family has affirmed the obvious that it is more than a house that makes a home.

summer sizzle

okay, if you don't have one of these and you love brownies scurry on over to your favorite Internet kitchen store or amazon (where I ordered this one).  my dad loves brownie edges so the baker's edge was the perfect father's day gift.

spent a patriotic 4th in the nation's most dangerous city, st. louis.  we shopped the soulard farmer's market, got sweaty at bush stadium (go cards) and antiqued on cherokee street. if you want fun folk art and whimsy stop in panorama.  these guys are great.  i have bought a few wooden flowers made of spindles and reclaimed wood for my garden at various markets they have vended.  but the shop is a hoot.

hope you had a great 4th...july is already starting to fly by.  no summertime lemonade commercials yet to make me sentimental about summer and realize it's almost over.

windy city weekend

i went to visit my sister in chicago this past weekend.  our friend dawn was already in town and another sister holly flew up.  we did a little of the local flavor and a little of the tourist stops.  i had never been to the bean or millennium park.  oh, and if you are into the show entourage, we saw jeremy piven at the sushi spot where we dined friday night.  i don't have the expensive cable, just enough to get a clear picture of the local weather but brooke and her boyfriend adam wanted to approach him and "hug it out"...glad they didn't.   they love the show.   i only know him as john cuzack's best friend in the movie serendipity.   no vince vaughn sitings this trip.  i have seen him twice on two separate visits.
